NGX CEO Jude Chiemeka Emerges President of African Securities Exchanges Association

The Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), Jude Chiemeka, has been appointed President of the African Securities Exchanges Association (ASEA), placing Nigeria at the centre of efforts to deepen capital market integration across the continent.

Chiemeka’s appointment took effect on September 30, 2026, following the expiration of the tenure of Pierre Célestin Rwabukumba, Chief Executive Officer of the Rwanda Stock Exchange.

The new ASEA president, who also chairs the West African Capital Markets Integration Council (WACMIC), brings more than three decades of experience spanning securities trading, asset management and investment banking.

His emergence comes at a time African capital markets are seeking stronger connections, improved liquidity and increased cross-border investment. Under his leadership, ASEA is expected to intensify efforts to make it easier for investors to access opportunities across different African markets.

A major priority will be facilitating inter-exchange trading and cross-listing across African jurisdictions. The association also plans to accelerate the adoption of financial technology and modern market infrastructure to improve efficiency and widen access to retail investors.

ASEA will also focus on strengthening links with global institutional investors while encouraging greater participation by domestic investors. Sustainable finance, including stronger environmental, social and governance frameworks and green bond listings, is another priority identified for the new administration.

Reacting to his appointment, Chiemeka described the role as an opportunity to advance the integration of African capital markets and promote technology-driven innovation.

He said the association would build on the foundation laid by his predecessor by advocating stronger cross-border investment frameworks, deeper liquidity pools and sustainable finance initiatives.

The appointment further strengthens Nigeria’s position in efforts to create a more connected African investment environment, with Chiemeka now occupying leadership positions at both the continental and West African levels.
