Former Anambra State Governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has visited the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) facility in Abuja to sign the condolence register for personnel who died in the recent aircraft crash in Ondo State.

Obi made the visit on Tuesday, following his earlier condolence message over the tragedy involving a Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft.

The aircraft, identified as NAF 931, crashed in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State on October 5 while on a routine mission from Benin City to Lagos. The NAF later confirmed that 25 people—five crew members and 20 passengers—were on board, with no survivors.

During his visit, Obi said the tragedy offered another opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made daily by members of the Armed Forces and other security agencies in the line of duty.

He described the deceased personnel as Nigerians who placed their lives at risk to defend the country and protect its citizens.

“We must never take their service and sacrifice for granted,” Obi said.

He extended his condolences to the Nigerian Air Force, the families, colleagues and loved ones of those who died, while praying for strength and consolation for the bereaved families.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, following directives for a thorough probe into the incident.
