President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to commence his 2027 re-election campaign in Kaduna State on October 24, according to Senator Abdulaziz Yari, Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.
Yari disclosed the plan on Friday, October 9, after meeting with Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he briefed the President on preparations for the campaign and the proposed schedule of state visits.
According to Yari, the APC Presidential Campaign Council will hold its inaugural meeting on October 14 at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja, ahead of the formal campaign flag-off.
He said Tinubu had approved the proposed timetable for the campaign activities, adding that the full schedule would be made public after the council’s inauguration.
Yari also identified Port Harcourt in Rivers State and Maiduguri in Borno State as destinations for subsequent campaign activities.
The announcement signals the ruling party’s preparations to mobilise support for Tinubu’s second-term bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.
APC Prepares Nationwide Mobilisation
The APC’s campaign strategy is expected to involve visits to states across the country as the party seeks to present the administration’s record and persuade Nigerians to support another four years under Tinubu’s leadership.
Yari said the campaign council had developed a proposed timetable for the President’s state visits, which Tinubu had approved.
He maintained that the ruling party would take its campaign message to different parts of the country, with further details expected after the campaign council’s inauguration.
The planned visits will provide an opportunity for the APC to outline its priorities, defend its policies and engage supporters as the election approaches.
However, the campaign’s reception will also be shaped by public assessments of the administration’s performance since Tinubu assumed office in May 2023.
Economy Likely to Feature in Campaign Message
Economic management is expected to be a major issue in the 2027 election debate.
Tinubu’s administration has implemented significant economic reforms, including the removal of the petrol subsidy and changes to foreign-exchange management.
The government has defended these measures as necessary steps towards restructuring the economy, improving public finances and attracting investment.
However, the reforms have also been accompanied by concerns over the cost of living, transportation expenses, food prices and the financial pressures facing households and businesses.
As the campaign begins, the APC will have to explain how its policies have affected ordinary Nigerians and what further measures it intends to pursue if Tinubu secures another term.
For voters, the central question will be whether the administration’s economic direction has delivered tangible improvements in living standards and whether its proposed next steps offer a credible response to continuing difficulties.
Opposition Parties Prepare for 2027 Contest
The ruling party’s campaign preparations come as opposition parties position themselves for the presidential election.
The contest is expected to feature debates over economic policy, national security, unemployment, infrastructure, governance and the performance of the current administration.
The APC will seek to defend its record and present its plans for a second term, while opposition candidates are expected to offer competing assessments of the government’s policies and alternative approaches to the country’s challenges.
Yari has expressed confidence in Tinubu’s political standing, citing what he described as the President’s support across northern and southern Nigeria.
Such claims represent the campaign leadership’s assessment of the political landscape. The eventual outcome will depend on voters’ decisions and the conduct of the electoral process.
Kaduna Flag-Off Marks Beginning of Campaign Activities
The planned October 24 rally in Kaduna will mark the formal beginning of the APC’s presidential campaign activities under the announced timetable.
The campaign council’s inaugural meeting, scheduled for October 14, is expected to precede the release of further details about the proposed state visits.
Following Kaduna, the campaign is expected to move to Port Harcourt and Maiduguri, although the full itinerary remains subject to the timetable to be released by the council.
As the 2027 election approaches, attention will turn to the messages the President and his party present to Nigerians, particularly on economic recovery, security and the cost of living.
The campaign will also provide an opportunity for voters to assess the administration’s record against its promises and determine whether its proposed policies address their concerns.
For Tinubu and the APC, the task ahead will be to translate the administration’s policy arguments into a case for another term, while convincing voters that their concerns and expectations will be addressed.
