Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has attracted attention following the circulation of a social media video appearing to show him unable to gain entry through a door at a venue where President Bola Tinubu was meeting with some members of his 2027 presidential campaign council on Friday.
In the footage, the governor approaches an entrance that appears to have been accessible to other attendees, only to find the door locked when he arrives.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear. However, the footage has prompted questions about the arrangements for the meeting and whether the incident reflects wider tensions within the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
Neither the video alone nor the circumstances visible in it establish why the door was locked or whether Uzodimma was deliberately denied entry.
Nevertheless, the incident has drawn attention because of the governor’s position in the APC’s presidential campaign structure and earlier reports of dissatisfaction over the distribution of roles within the party.
A Campaign Council Secretary at the Centre of Attention
Uzodimma was named secretary of the APC Presidential Campaign Council when the party announced its campaign leadership in August 2026.
Former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari was appointed director-general, while President Tinubu was named chairman of the council.
The announcement placed Uzodimma among the party leaders expected to coordinate the ruling party’s campaign preparations.
The governor has also been associated with the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, a political mobilisation structure established to promote Tinubu’s agenda ahead of the next election.
Given these responsibilities, the footage has raised questions about the governor’s access to campaign leadership and his place in the President’s political inner circle.
However, there is no verified evidence that the incident resulted from a decision to remove him from his responsibilities or diminish his role in the campaign council.
Earlier Reports of Discontent Within the APC
The incident comes against the backdrop of reports that the composition of the APC Presidential Campaign Council generated dissatisfaction among some party governors and stakeholders.
A report published by The Sun on September 28, 2026, said some APC governors had travelled privately to meet Tinubu in London and Paris to express concerns about the campaign council’s composition and the roles assigned to party leaders.
The report suggested that some governors felt overlooked or inadequately accommodated in the emerging campaign structure.
Separately, The PUNCH reported on August 28 that Tinubu had held discussions with APC governors over controversy surrounding the campaign council list.
According to the report, the consultations followed complaints that some party stakeholders had not been adequately involved in drawing up the list. The Presidency subsequently indicated that adjustments could be made where necessary.
These developments provide context for the questions now being asked about Uzodimma’s experience at the meeting venue.
They do not, however, establish that the governor was deliberately excluded from Thursday’s meeting or that the incident was connected to the earlier disagreements.
Is Uzodimma Being Sidelined?
The video has fuelled speculation about whether Uzodimma’s formal position in the campaign council corresponds with his practical influence within the campaign leadership.
The distinction matters because holding a senior title does not, on its own, reveal the extent of an official’s access to decision-making or influence over campaign strategy.
If the governor was intentionally prevented from entering the meeting, questions would naturally arise about the reasons for such a decision and its implications for his responsibilities.
But the available footage does not establish that this was what happened.
The door may have been locked for reasons unrelated to the governor, and further information about the meeting’s access arrangements would be needed to determine the circumstances.
For now, the possibility that the incident reflects political sidelining remains an interpretation rather than an established fact.
What the Incident Means for Tinubu’s Campaign
The APC is preparing for a presidential campaign expected to involve governors, national party officials and political mobilisation structures across the country.
Coordination among these actors will be important as the ruling party prepares to present its record and seek another mandate for Tinubu.
The controversy surrounding the campaign council’s composition has already demonstrated the importance of accommodating party stakeholders and clarifying their responsibilities.
An unexplained incident involving a senior campaign official could therefore generate further questions about communication and coordination within the party.
However, determining whether the incident represents a broader internal dispute will require more than the video alone.
A response from the Presidency, the APC campaign council or the Imo State Government could help clarify whether Uzodimma was expected at the meeting, why the entrance was locked and whether any disagreement occurred.
Questions Remain Unanswered
The immediate questions are straightforward: Why was the entrance locked when Uzodimma arrived? Was he expected to attend the meeting? Did he eventually gain access through another entrance? And has the governor or the Presidency offered an explanation?
Answers to these questions would help establish whether the incident was an administrative mishap or something with wider political implications.
Until then, the footage remains a subject of public interest, particularly given the earlier reports of dissatisfaction over the APC campaign council.
For Uzodimma, the issue is not simply about a locked door. It is about what the incident may reveal, if anything, about his position in the party’s campaign leadership.
For the APC, the episode presents another reason to clarify the roles of its senior figures as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.
Uzodimma Yet to Clarify Alleged Incident
As of publication, Polity Nigeria has not independently verified the claim that Uzodimma was locked out of Friday’s meeting.
The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Oguwike Nwachuku, was not reachable when Polity Nigeria placed calls to his known telephone numbers for his comments on this story Friday night.
Polity Nigeria will continue to follow developments surrounding the incident and any official explanation from the parties involved.
